from waht you are saying Oil leaks are tough to chase down but the 99 saab did not have the PCV system that ventilates the engine well and is the root of many oil leaks because the crankcase becomes pressurized. You should be careful and check where you purchased the car to have them tell you what and where it is leaking. If it is leaking because of sludge problem, You should have them see if the car was under the SAAB sludge Warranty program before you purchase it.The SID (Saab Infoermation Display) can be rebuilt and several folks do that for a nominal fee.

I don't know your driving habits or environment but if you normally take short trips in a cold enviroinment, I would recommend you find some one to install the Mod 6 PCV system. It ventilates the vapors from the engine and helps to reduce sludge. I would also recommentd if you use conventional oil that you change at least 3500-4000 miles or use Synthetic or a blend.

SAABs are really good cars and if cared for they will provide you with great tranportation. I have two wagons and find them to be very handy vehicles. (I have two large Old English Sheepdogs that love to travel)

Good luck and find an indy whom you can trust and you will be very glad that you did. He will have lots of tid bits of information that you may be able to use. SAABs are very reliable --- if NOT ABUSED. Do the routine maintenance, it is very important.
