Your mechanic might be an old school dealer mechanic that doesn't like changes that much and go under leash of Saab.

Saab has never recommended manual transmission oil changes (except when they used a bad fluid from factory that didn't work that good).
That said, it is just plain stupid not to replace the manual transmission fluid now and then. Every 30K miles is a good interval together with the major service.

Just the other week I had a customer complaining of notchy shifting in a 01 9-3 (even though I couldn't really find anything wrong during test drive). After transmission fluid change using the Saab MTF 0063, the problems she felt was gone and she was very happy.

About the PCV.

It takes a lot of interest to keep track of all different bulletins that has come out. The latest one has become known as PCV fix #6 even though it might only be 5 bulletins out but if you count the original PCV system installed on the car from factory you can kind of call this number 6.

As far as I know it has been SI 210-2353 and TSB 210-2417 which was nullified by the third one TSB 210-2417 ed2 and then the fourth one TSB 210-2417 ed3 and the latest one TSB 210-2427 ed4.

So the 210-2417 ed4 is what we call PCV #6.
Easy, isn't it?

Anders
