But my (limited) experience with failed heater cores is that you also have a strong smell of coolant in the cabin, and a windshield that is perpetually fogged on the inside surface. The A/C drains on the 9-5 would probably prevent the third tell-tale symptom, soggy floor carpeting in the front passenger footwell.
