I recently spent four hours repairing chewed wires located between the battery and coolant reservoir. One wire was completely broken and two others had copper strands exposed and some strands broken. Used solder to fix, then wrapped with tape and metal duct tape. Symptoms were all all dash brake related warning lights stayed on.
Then sprayed strategic areas of all four car engine compartments with Critter Ritter (pepper based repellant with no after application smell) purchased at Home Dept. Also placed 1" green cubes of rat poison around the garage (two missing the next day and another two missing a week later) with one dead rat found in the garage a week later. The upper engine mount with a 1" round depression is perfect spot to tightly lodge a cube of poison and does not smell with engine heat. These have been chewed on a bit so hopefully the rat family is all dead now. I'll keep such cubes in from now on just in case. No telling how much $ I saved tackling the issue myself, but when I saw rodent turds around engine, I then looked for exposed wires.
