I installed my spare belt last night, then browsed old posts looking for belt related items. Two things stood out: Anders had stated that a worn tensioner will often make the belt ride outboard of its pulley, thus causing edge bands to fail; and a few posts complaining of short life with Continental brand belts.
Was my belt problem the result of an old tensioner, or indicative of Continental belt life?
I was planing to replace the entire tensioner assembly at my 240,000 mile belt and pulley service this coming Fall. I will now be installing a new Goodyear belt much sooner than that, and it appears I better do the tensioner too!
