WIS is pretty straightforward:
Drain coolant
remove engine cover
remove upper,middle&lower inlet manifolds
remove mass airflow sensor & hose
disconnect turbo inlet pipe and move it towards the intercooler
remove dipstick & pipe going to the thermostat
remove thermostat
WIS is usually anal about removing/disconnecting stuff. They have you remove the whole headlamp to replace a Xenon bulb...
My mechanic (Swedish Car, Bound Brook NJ) only puts OEM thermostats in. It's not cheap, but he says he's had to re-do several cars because of off-brand thermostats. No come-backs on OEM thermostats.
Also take a look at the cover for the heat exchanger (oil cooler). Mine was leaking last week when I took it in for the t-belt,serp belt, etc. He re-sealed that and replaced the thermostat.
