It's difficult to say what could have happened since we don't know about the installation and the pump used.
Hopefully, the pump unit is lined up properly in tank. That can be checked by lifting the rear seat and remove the cover to see if the two lines (one on tank, one on fuel pump) lines up.
If they don't, that might be the problem.
We also don't know if maybe your car have an anti slosh baffle inside tank that may have moved around, hindering the travel of fuel level arm.
We also don't know if it was a 9-5 pump unit used or a pump unit for a 9-3, 900 or 9000. They are very similar but the float level arm is bent in different shapes to accommodate the different shapes of gas tank.
When those things are double checked and found to be correct, than you can suspect a gauge problem maybe.
