The material is not a vibration damper but a mild adhesive that prevents a harmonic vibration. When I applied it to the pads I put it where the piston came into contact, and avoided other areas. Basically a big circle. I don't remember where I put it on the other side.
The symptom I get now is it will whine a bit when traveling at a slow speed (5mph) with the brakes applied, coming to a stop.
