So, a week and a half ago, i pay $650 for a front end alignment, and now this:
I get in the car this morning, and the key won't turn. From what i can tell, there's something broken in there that is preventing the cylinder from being pushed in when the key turns. I assume there's probably a spring down there or something that has given out. I removed the rubber boot, lubed it all up in there, jiggled, pushed, pulled twisted, and nothing. I'm assuming that whatever the problem is, it will cost $1000 to fix. It always costs $1000.
Anyhow, my real problem is my car's location--it's in a place that is impossible for a tow truck to get to, and will need to be moved a bit in order to scoop it up. So, having said that, what might my options be? The steering wheel is obviously locked, as well as the transmission. How can I move this thing? Are there any options? Or do i let it sit there and wait 50 years until it turns into a pile of rust and plastic, then sweep it up? Maybe i could just disassemble the whole thing and rebuild it in a tow truck accessible location.
Is it easy to replace the key cylinder? Arrgh.
Any advice would be appreciated. I love my car and it has been paid off for long enough that i really enjoy not having a car payment. The car runs and drives great, and to boot, Saab swapped out the engine at 55k miles, so it still has lots of life left. However, this morning if i could have moved it, i would have driven into lake michigan . . .
As always, thanks for the help and advice.
Regards,
Scott
