Unfortunately a one time test really tells you nothing very useful. The test is referred to as a SOAP test - Spectrographic Oil Analysis PROGRAM The key here is PROGRAM. It takes at least 6 oil analyses to determine the health of an engine. By the time of the sixth test one can see the Trends of the wear and then determine the health. I submited my oil to inspection every 25 hours and the company I use plots the trends each time. After about 600 hours I found I was getting high chrome and the company notified me that I had possible rings failing. We pulled the cylinders and indead found two compression rings cracked near the rear of the engine (the hottest running). These rings were replaced and all was hunky dory for another 1000 hours. I modified my operation of the engine and nothing more came about. A good analysis will give cu, fe, al, cr, C and dilution. That is about all there is in an engine. So keep it up and watch the numbers unless your company does it for you. BTW signing up for a program of 12 analyses is a real money saver for those who really want to know the engine health. If you don't keep the trend program you are probably wasting your money.
