I bought rear Konis from Genuinesaab. I had my Indy put them on. He installed them on the lower setting which is the way they come. There are 2 grooves machined in the lower shock body. They come with a wire ring in the bottom groove. The lower spring perch slides over the body of the shock.
My car is a 2001 95 Aero sedan.
First time the indy installed the shocks he used the lower mount. The damping was set to 50%. Which I now think is a bit too high. I would start with 25 or 30%.
The damping was great....well a little stiff, but the car would bottom when 2 people were in the rear.....say on good freeway bumps.
I talked to Nick at Genuinesaab and he said start by moving up to the next groove. At this point I did not know there was a higher one. I looked at the car and sure enough there was. My Indy did not seem to know that either when I spoke to him on the phone. He did move it up to the higher groove and it is perfect.
I feel that the lower groove is LESS preload than stock, and the higher groove is MORE preload than stock. At rest the car looks slightly higher....less than a half inch.
So in summary, the Konis are great because of the increased damping, the the upper groove gave me the right pre-load for my car.
