The 9-5 V6 has a timing belt, not a chain. Yes, Saab will do the BELT at 60k (+/- a fairly narrow range of miles), but they do ONLY the belt. As most here will tell you, that's only part of that job. You should also replace the belt tensioner and guide pulley. The water pump is also in there, and replacing it at the same time can also prevent other issues down the line (a friend almost lost a 9-5 V6 motor because the water pump seal failed extremely rapidly shortly after he did a belt and tensioner).
But don't let that dissuade you. Once that's taken care of, the motor will go another 60k with no issues from those components, anyway.
I just bought a 2002 Arc sedan with 83,500 on it. The belt had never been done, until I took it to my mechanic. 80k or more is REALLY stretching it.
If you were considering buying any 9-5 V6 with miles near 60k, use that potential cost as a negotiating point. If you're looking at a car with more than 60k, see if you can get proof it was done, or, if you can't get proof, assume it has note been done, and use it as a negotiating point.
The V6 is a very good motor, and will last a long time, so long as you don't neglect proper maintenance.
I got a phenomenal deal on mine, and they are out there to be had.
