Both of my daughters had classic Saab 900s in college. Of course they were close enough for me to get it to our great indy mechanic. My daughter was hit in the middle of an intersection in the 1979 Turbo 3d by a soccer mom on the phone. Center punched the driver's side front wheel. Drove the halfshaft into the trans, tweaked the whole unibody to the point where the rear quarter (opposite side) was distorted. Sent the car spinning up a front lawn onto the front step of a house. My daughter had a couple of bruises from the seat belt. Car was totaled. The firemen and paramedics asked my daughter where the "victim" went. They could not believe she was the driver.
Since then they have owned another 900, Viggen, 900 convertible, 900SPG, and oldest daughter has a 2008 anniversary edition Aero wagon. the wagon is a great safe car for her and the kids.
No Hondas, no Toyotas.....We owned and early Accord.....it was a VERY reliable tin can.....kept it less than a year. Yeah I know the news Jap stuff is great...but not for me.
One last thought everybody drives Hondas, Toyota, Nissan "secretary" cars. Special people are smart enough to drive Saabs......even in So Cal there was some snob appeal to the kids driving Saabs.....and they were all reasonably priced used cars.
