Why no V6? Posted by B Millar [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: ?What to buy, which yr and model of 9-5, Linear, Aero, mgw, Sun, 13 Apr 2008 11:46:52 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Are you just assuming it sucks because the V6 in the 9000 sucked? Well it doesn't. While the 9-5's V6 is BASED off the 9000's, it's MUCH more reliable. A lot of us here on the 9-5 board agree that used, the V6 is a better bet than the 4-cyl because you don't have to worry about sludge, head gaskets, head bolts, PCV, etc...
In 2000 there were three trims available. Base, which was the 175hp 2.3t LPT, SE which had the 200hp 3.0t V6, and Aero with the 230hp 2.3t HOT. I've got a 2001 SE V6 that I love, and it has 176k miles on it. If you keep up with the timing belt every 60k miles it's a great engine. I'm just saying, if you find one in good shape, don't rule it out because it's got the V6. A lot of people like the smooth power band and the growl it makes. Here's a video of mine under moderate acceleration just for a sound example. I can't really say much as far as cooling because I don't have any experience with 9000's. Good luck!
