I guess that buying a car is a different sort of thing for different kinds of people.
Anyone who buys a new Merc or BMW every few years can't possibly have resale value as an item high in their priorities, regardless of what they say. The "status" thing is involved, too. Saabs certainly aren't perceived as the same kind of "status symbols" as are Mercedes and BMW, among others.
Personally, I really don't buy into all of that. For me, at least, the 9-5 is a beautifully designed machine, will never look dated or out of style, is extremely safe to drive, and, maybe just as importantly, DIDN'T cost me an arm and a leg, as it was a CPO "used" car. Yeah, I thought about "resale value" all right: I'm glad I didn't fork over the original sticker price and was happy to let someone else take that hit!
The underlying idea, I think, is that the reflexive "luxury car" purchase is a BMW or a Mercedes or a Lexus, etc. Saabs are different. They've always been a little "outside" the mainstream, and maybe that's why we all like them so much. My black 9-5 Aero is about as "anti-bling" as they come, but boy, what a blast to drive!
I think maybe you're trying to talk the lady into a car she really doesn't want in the first place. It would be an unusual leap of faith for a frequent buyer of new luxury vehicles to appreciate the inherent value of a "used" CPO'd Saab, f'rinstance, - instead of looking at it from the other perspective of "low resale value."
