Morning Sputtering

Yesterday morning my 2001 9-5 2.3 5-speed with 82k cranked for an extended time (4-5 seconds) before finally turning over...for about 3 seconds before shutting off. I turned the key again and it started strong (and ran strong all day). This morning the same thing happened. I replaced the DI cassette and plugs at 70k and just finished diagnosing a six month electrical problem - and replaced the alternator and both battery cables because of it. Where do I start looking now??? Is the starter starting to go bad??? I almost replaced it while I was down with the alternator - and in hindsight, probably should have. I am in the northeast where it was damp, dreary and rainy all weekend - which could have explained Sunday morning, but it cleared up yesterday and the car was driven nearly 100 miles, so anything that was wet should have dried up before this morning.
Thanks,
Dave
