When you pull fuse 14 under the hood it cuts the main power to the siren. However, depending on the actual condition of your siren batteries it may not shut it off. First time I did it my alarm kept blaring for good 10-15 minutes after removing fuse 14 before the batteries died and it slowly quieted to a whisper.
As for no batteries at all - that's how I'm driving now. I get occasional STA (once a week maybe) but no unexpected alarms. Hopefully it will stay like this. If you feel adventurous, you can get solder tabs attached (professionally, don't do it yourself!) to cr123a batteries and try to fit then into siren box. This so far seems like the best idea (some of the people here have done it) but has no reports about long term effects yet.
cheers
