2004 9-5 Aero wagon. Started hearing a tapping noise coming from under the dash, center right side. Stops if I turn off ACC system. Sounds like about 6-8 knocks then it stops. May happen once per 30 minute drive. I have done several recalibrations of the ACC system and didn't show any fault codes. Tapping continues. Last heard it immediately after I shut down the engine and was exiting the vehicle. Tapping doesn't seem connected to the recirculation flap positioning as I have actuated the "recirc" button and not activated the tapping noise.
Is this the infamous arm breakage problem I have read about here? I have the links to the various fixes and read about the plastic vs aluminum sleeve solutions. Should I dig into the right side under dash and look for anything yet? Any preventive mx I can do before something breaks or is it too late? Thanks for any advice.
BTW, we love our Aeros and appreciate european, autobahn-ready cars having lived in Germany. I just quit my job at the winery so I have plenty of time to do more DIY repairs on our Saabs. All cars need repairs and I am thankful for this websight to help diagnose and fix problems unique to Saabs. And yes, I patronize the advertisers.
