Well after 8.5 months of intermittent behavior. The dealer finally replicated my problem. To recap, when the car is hot like in stop and go traffic and it's 90+ F, it is a slug off the line.
Tech at the dealer said that instead of the temp fluctuating between 195 to 205 that it was as high as 245 F. The system compensates to prevent pinging and retards the heck out of everything.
He also stated he wasn't seeing the radiator fans engage high speed when this happened. He removed the relays, etc and they checked out with a volt-ohm meter. When he put them back they started working (dirty contacts?) So far the problem has not returned after 5 days.
When I have checked the high speed has come on, so it did not appear to be an issue. The temp gauge remains at horizontal no matter what. I know there are adjustments that can be made via tech2 to govern the behavior of the temp gauge. A 50 F rise ought to move the needle. What do I tell them to adjust with the tech2 so I can see what is happening if the issue returns.
Contacted SAAB customer service on this issue. Absolutely the worst experience I have ever had with a manufacturer. I have serious doubts that I will purchase a 5th SAAB due to their arrogance, incompetence, and inaccurate statements in the case history.
