Seems that the biggest difference is with alot of stop and go, short trip miles. On the highway at constant speed, about 15%. Short trip, 25-30%. My driving is usually one or the other, nothing in between. My "commute" is about .8 miles, not even enough to warm up the engine. One other reason for the bigger difference on shorter trips might be the additional horsepower.
My car is a Linear SW, so 185HP to 230HP, might mean a little more aggressive driving.
With straight E-85, I've gotten as high as 30 MPG on the highway, as low as 26.5 on the highway (pushing a headwind).
Near as I can figure, a 20% price differential means break even for sure, anything greater for a price differential is definitely positive.
The other thing, I came to this car from a 94 9000 Aero, so the extra horsepower is a personal plus, also factored in the lower price of buying the Linear (04, 39K, $13,900 last October) and doing the upgrade vs buying a comparable Arc or Aero, it was also a good deal. For the Linear, it's a ECU only conversion. For the Aero, I think you also have to switch injectors, but you'd have to talk to Nick at Taliferro's to be sure.
In terms of cold weather starting, it's no problem. The only starting issues I've had were at about 40 F, the car ran a little rich on start-up, had to blip the throttle once or twice to clear it. Nick can tell you more about that issue also.
