Get in the car and enter the freeway. Drive approx 17 miles at 75-85. Encounter stop and go traffic for three miles. Leave freeway for surface street. Drive about 1 mile and stop at traffic light. If it is above 90F, when you go to pull away from the light the car is a slug. Sometimes it will barely creep, other times it just doesn't step off the line as quickly and smoothly as it normally does. If you are driving, you can almost feel the slightest of misfires sometimes (in other words you are not sure if it is misfiring as it is so subtle). Eventually you will get power and acceleration, but it comes on with a bang and feels strained. When it is at its worst, the 0-60 times are roughly equivalent to the '75 Pinto station wagon with an automatic that I had in college. I measured 0-60 time with a calendar for that car. Has only thrown a CEL once for the MAF. Replacing it made no difference.
Problem also occurs when you are running errands to a number of places with short trips between, as long as it is hot.
This trip to the dealer was number 5 or 6 over an 8-9 month period. First it could not be reproduced by the dealer. (3 trips) On trip 4, they kept it for 9 days. Tech drove it home with Tech2 and stated temps were 245F and radiator fans were not switching to high. He took out components and checked them and found them to be "in spec." Continuity checks on the relays? Who knows? Tech puts things back together, cannot reproduce problem.
25 mile trip to airport on Sunday with 10 minutes of idling waiting for sig other to arrive. Leave terminal, drive about 1 mile to toll booth. Pulling away from tool booth car is sluggish. Fans definitely switched to high and back to low several times while waiting. On Monday, 99F on way home...the 17 miles followed by traffic, etc. Moderate occurence. Drove to dealer. Tech drove car and experienced issue.
A lot of folks on this board keep telling me that SAABs don't run well in hot weather. My '95 9K, my 99 9.3 convertible, and my 06 9.3 say that is incorrect. Performance is not as good as when it isn't hot, but nothing like the intensity of what I am seeing.
I have tried every major brand and grade of fuel. I don't use no name gas. The fans have always cycled when I checked them. Other than the MAF, there were no codes. Car has 23K miles.
Rep also said there were too many misfires so the ICM was replaced this time...leading me to think it's really a DIC. Plugs look fine.
A few months back someone on here described similar issue on another 06 that occurred after several hours of high speed followed by stop n go (SFO to LAX).
SAAB customer service (aka GM call center) should be closed. They are less than useless and know nothing about the product. They are "facilitators" which in my dictionary translates to "in the way".
I just hope Loki has had enough fun with me for a while and this fixes it.
