I was curious so I looked up the parts cost. eEuroparts wants more than $600 for the compressor itself. Unless you can find rebuilts for much less (and you should be able to -rebuilding compressors isn't rocket science). You might consider doing the job yourself.
Keep in mind though, you should replace the receiver-drier and expansion valve while you're at it. These components typically get fouled when a compressor fails. The receiver dryer may be saturated with moisture, or crap after opening the system. You'll also need to add the appropriate amount of PAG oil and thoroughly vacuum pump the system using a commercial grade vacuum pump (NOT AN AIR COMPRESSOR DRIVEN ONE).
If you have a shop do the job (which is probably the better choice) make sure they plan to at least replace the receiver dryer. Compressor rebuilders and manufacturers usually require that as a condition of their parts warranty. Also make sure they'll be using an adequate pump; there's a world of difference between 27hg vacuum and 29.5.
