Hi all,
I wanted to report back on what I ended up doing. As you know, I checked out the Catera oil cooler and found its construction significantly different from my original Saab oil cooler. So, I returned that oil cooler to the Cadillac dealer and ordered a Saab oil cooler from an online retailer. Low and behold, they shipped me the Catera oil cooler. I called numerous Saab dealers around the country in an attempt to determine if the original Saab part had been superseded. I got a variety of replies ranging from "no, the part has not been superseded" to "GM told us to use the Catera part". The vast majority of responses were in the "no, the Saab part has not been superseded" side of things (which makes me question the wisdom of those dealers, but that is another subject). In the end, I was able to return the incorrect part to the online retailer and ordered the correct part from my local Saab dealer. All of this cost me a lot of down time but I am very glad that I installed the proper Saab part.
I started up the car this afternoon after work (I let the sealant set up for 24 hours before adding coolant) and everything is working properly and not leaking. All in all, this was not a terrible job. I saved myself well over $50/hour doing the work myself. I could do it quite a bit quicker next time.
Regards,
Greg Bender
