uhaul transporter problem

I moved recently from FL to NC and decided to tow my '02 Arc Wagon behind a rented uhaul truck using one of the big, twin axle, drive on, uhaul car transporters. I had an 'interesting' problem though. With the car on the transporter I couldn't open any of the doors. The transporter had fold down wheel covers, but even with them folded down it was still too high for the car door to open. In the end I had to get out through the tail gate. If I had a sedan I would have had to climb out an open window and drive the whole way with the window open. The guy at uhaul helping me hitch it up said he'd never seen that problem before. The 9-5 isn't that low is it? Anyone else had this problem?
