Strong recommendation for those doing ABS repair... Posted by MI-Roger [Email] ![]() ![]() |
Buy a new left motor mount. In fact, buy at least the left and right, and maybe the front torque bar too. The rear (and final) motor mount is said to be a real bugger to replace.
I ordered a new right and left mount because I saw the right mount was shot (bolt nutated freely within the steel can) when I replaced my pulleys and belt last week. The left mount is immediately beneath the battery tray which has to be removed for access to the ABS control unit screws, so I thought I may as well replace that one too when I am installing the rebuilt controller.
The left mount came out in two pieces! The center steel wedge-shaped block had sheared from the rubber supporting pieces. Only gravity was keeping things in proper alignment. It is also MUCH easier to install the bottom outside ABS module mounting screw if the motor mount is gone. With the mount removed you have space for your hand to start the hidden screw.
Bottom line: If your car has seen enough miles for the ABS to fail, the motor mounts are probably shot too. Very little incremental effort required to replace the left, front, and right mounts at the same time.
