Leak in MY 99 wagon hatch from tail-light lens joint Posted by CrNiFe [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: Leak in MY 99 wagon hatch, CrNiFe ![]() ![]() |
Sorry, it took a bit of time to sit down to reply.
I first noticed it when i would see condensation within the inboard left rear tail lens (on the tailgate). When I lifted the hatch, water would pour down the left side into the cargo area.
The key was to carefully remove the whole inboard lens assembly, and then apply a small amount of silicone rubber along the edges. I tested the hypothesis before I applied the sealant, and sure enough water would flow down the tailgate and make its way into the cavity. It would pool in the light socket when the hatch was raised (not the best for electrical circuits!), and then drip from the light socket fixture.
I haven't seen the problem on the right side lens yet, but when I do, I will just do the same fix.
Regards,
