My 2003 Aero with HK radio is probably the same as yours. There is a difference between sedan & wagon models. It is stored under the passenger side kick panel, just in front of the front door hinges. It takes about 15 minutes to swap it out.
The issue is the diagnosis- I had a silent radio (nl lights and channel selection etc) which was Dx'ed by the dealer as a bad radio. That was wrong. I bought an amp from a local junk yard ($85) which also did not help but ultimately it started working again after jiggling some wires about. The WorkShop manual states relatively few radios or amps returned under warranty are defective upon bench testing.
I would recommend jiggling wires and connectors a bit first. If you want an amp (HK 4617171) you can have mine for the cost of shipping. Same deal on a bench OKed HK radio but you need to have it "married" to your VIN.
