While returning from the Outer Banks yesterday our '99 9-5 suffered some sort of mild seizure. After about 300 miles in 90 degree heat the SID went dark and the fuel, temperature, and tachometer went to zero. Otherwise, the car behaved normally and the radio, AC, and headlights remained on. Pushing the "clear" button on the SID would light up the display but then it would go dark after a few seconds. After about five minutes we stopped and cut the engine and when the ignition was turned on all the warning lights behaved normally and the engine started normally. After another few minutes of driving the display and gauges spontaneously returned to normal and remained so for the remaining 200 miles.
Any ideas of what happened? Is this an early sign of computer failure?
The only other thing that might be related is the "Service Theft Alarm" display came up early in the trip even though I had replaced its batteries about a year ago. This happened only once.
