Got to finally replace the oil pressure sensor this afternoon...hopefully no more embarassing smoke screen at startup.
Most of the info to replace it was available on the BB (thx all !) but here are some remarks:
* full job, start to finish took me 2 hours, taking my time.
* a lot of time was wasted not having the right tools and trying to disconnect the old sensor electric plug
* the right tool would be... a snubby ratchet (mentioned in other posts, but I thought I was smarter than follow the recommendations); a good light would be quite useful too (mine crapped in the middle...)
* I used a 1 inch 12 points deep socket (3/8 drive) to remove the sensor, plenty of place for the wire - no need to cut the socket either
* after wasting time trying to disconnect the original sensor from under the car, I cut the wire then pulled the assembly through the top where it became much easier to release the red connector (had access to 2 hands, not available from underneath)- did reconnect the new sensor from under the car though, a bit of a drag too
* I found it helpful to remove the battery tray and the fuse box and hold it aside with some bunjee. Made the access to the 18mm bolt for the starter much easier - watch the vacuum lines still when you crack the starter upper bolt
* I removed the starter completely as well as the manifold brace - this last one takes less than a minute and does clear a fair amount of extra space.
My conclusion is that although not the most exciting task, it's not too hard to do overall. You may want to evaluate how much your time is worth before you decide to do it yourself, though; I think Anders mentioned once he was charging around $100 or so with parts, and for this price, I would have brought my car to him (except I live on the other side of the US).
