The belt is supposed to be replaced every 60K, and since the pulleys are a known failure item they are "usually" done at the same time, but from reading posts here, it seems that the customer may need to specify this.
My dealer tells me that people don't like the $375 to $500 price tag that comes with doing the belt and pulleys, so they will often do the belt only. Sorta depends on dealer policy.
My dealer didn't do the belt at 60K, telling me it (and the pulleys) were fine. Checked again at 65K and said the same thing. I don't know whether he was trying to save me money or just didn't want to do the job. I had my indy do it at 70K for $280, belt and pulleys.
Also... Saab has supposedly switched back to the "long belt" that originally came with the car, instead of the "short belt" they had used for a while. Posts here indicate not all dealers got the memo on that, so ask if you're having the work done. I did the long belt on my '03 Linear, which my indy recommends anyway.
