It had a thin pleated filter and a mesh bag filled with activated charcoal granules. By the time I performed the first filter change, Saab was using only a single pleated filter (much thicker) that was impregnated with activated carbon dust.
The filter is locate in the HVAC housing beneath the dash and atop the console. Search on this board for changing instructions, it requires 45 minutes or so to dismantle and reassemble the car's interior for this job.
