OK,

After months of losing small amounts of coolant I replaced my heater bypass valve. The job was actually fairly easy after purchasing a set of cable actuated hose clamp pliers, I don't see doing anything without them now.

Now the hard part, it appears that I have no heat (was 65 this AM but I wanted to verify everything worked). I am 99% positive that I hooked everything up correctly but just to verify:

Water hoses were self explanatory, I left the hose clamp pliers on the bottom hose and replaced that one first to get that order right. Now for the vacuum lines: The main line coming from the manifold with the diaphragm inline went to the inline fitting on the small solenoid and the perpendicular outlet with the small hose goes up to the top to actuate the valve? When full A/C is called for the solenoid trip and the vacuum is applied to the top of the valve causing it to open and bypass the heater core. All of this sounds right in my head but maybe I have the vacuum line connections wrong on the solenoid?

Any help would be great, winter is approaching ;)

Also, I'm thinking about just bypassing this valve as it appears useless to not let any coolant pass through the heater core, even if you want full cold I don't see that a ton of hot air would get into the cabin vs. not flowing any. I'm no thermodynamics guy (electrical engineer) but I am willing to bet I could live with the lower efficiency vs. a $96 dollar part that has a 100% failure rate.
