The $300 "maybe" part he's talking about is the tensioner assembly. Don't fool around with trying to save a buck on the timing belt (no chain on the V6) job by ignoring this part. The tech may look at it real quick and say, "meehhh you can probably get another 60k miles outta her," and your response should go like this, "I don't care, replace it (please)." There have been lots of posts on this forum about V6 people who try to stretch 120k miles out of the tensioner assembly. They come on in tears because at around 100k miles their tensioner locked up and ruined the belt and now they need to replace the WHOLE engine to the tune of $4k. Spend the extra $300 now or you'll really kick yourself when your engine bites it. The actual belt itself can EASILY last 100k miles. My indy gave me my old belt and it still looked and felt new after 60k miles. No one really ever has the belt fail, it's always the tensioner. Your dealer is trying to help, not scam you out of $300. $1000 for the whole 60k mile service isn't all that terrible. Sorry if this is a little harsh but you hafta gotta must replace the tensioner. Here's a picture of a failed tensioner and what it does to the belt. The V6 is an interference engine so when the camshafts become out of time with the crankshaft the valves crash into the pistons and you need a new engine or an extensive rebuild. Good luck with your move to CT and go get that tensioner replaced!! Haha.
