Driving a 1992 400E mercedes and 2004 Aero side by side I know exactly which of these two is true premium and which one is a mass-market with a twist and lots of go.
SAABs are hugely charismatic and addictive motors (I've had 6 to date!), but by no means they are premium. GM thinks otherwise. And IMO here is the problem. Folks will not believe in your "Hey, its premium!" claim, unless they will see and feel it.
GM should study Audi's efforts closely. 20 years ago Audi was roughly at the same plane as SAAB. Then they found their 'twist' (quattro concept) and since then it was steady road uphill.
Regular model changes (instead of 10-year+ cycles of SAAB), huge improvements in interiors quality, etc.
Never mind that in terms of real quality Audi mostly sucks now - but who cares, they _are_ premium already.
