I am truly sorry to hear of your troubles, and a little venting is reasonable.
But remember, the grass is greener on the other side because it is spread with, well, copious amounts of organically-produced fertilizer. The only cars that don't break are die-cast metal, and only if they're kept in the plastic display case. Hondas, Toyotas, and the like have a reputation for reliability, but that is slowly fading.

Yup, no problem getting parts for an American car. But most manufactures go to the lowest cost supplier, and those are more and more overseas. You don't think GM makes all its parts? And even domestic cars run into parts shortages. How would you like to need a part from a wharehouse in Galveston right now? And with many cars, even American ones, they put the parts into production cars, not into spares.

Part production is based on expected need. If an IDM is suddenly failing, first they need to determine the cause and re-design the part. Then they have to change the part, which probably means getting other parts from other manufacturers. If it's a bad capacitor in the IDM, they need to find the right one, and find a manufacturer with stock on hand, or more likely get them to ramp up production. Then they need to start making IDMs, both for production cars and to back-fill the spare pipeline. Most production facilities aren't set up to just double production rates - you need tools, people, test equipment, the works. This is true of IDM, toasters, TVs.

I wish you luck in your next car purchase. But what you're seeing is typical of the entire car industry, not just Saab. Yes, you got burned on this one. And hopefully you won't get burned on your next car.
