Yes, it's reasonable to suspect that *something* is broken and yes, it is reasonable to expect a code.
You are going to have to get down and dirty on this one ... pull it apart and look, listen and feel as you operate the controls.
The repair options are great. But you will have to know what is broken before buying. If its just the stop arm you can buy the updated Saab Plastic part of the Aluminum part from thesaabsite. IF the shaft itself is broken you will more expensive aluminum shaft repair kit.
but it may be something else ... a stepper motor, a loose connection ... check it out.
oh and make a chiropractic appointment now ... this repair requires you to bend in ways that you were not designed to!
