1999-2009 [Subscribe to Daily Digest] |
I bought my 99 9-5 se about 2 months ago and I have been learning a little bit every day. The one thing I am glad I did was to buy it from a saab dealer in the certified used car program. That adds another year and up to 60,000 miles to the warrenty. I never thought I would hear me say that I was glad I bought from a dealer. And yes, the extra warrenty will cost you. My dealer rolled it into the asking price of the car. The salesman said it costs the dealer $500. At that time I had the option of adding another year and a ceiling of 100,000 miles, but at a cost of $2000 I graciously declined.
About the only serious problem with the car so far is road noise, which I believe is coming from the tires. On blacktop roads its no problem, but on cement highways the sound from the back seat is a little loud. I've been reading through the posts here and it seems like others have blamed the stock michelin tires, which I have on my car. I would recomend driving at highway speeds on a couple of cement type roads and listen carefully. Some people have posted here that yokohama and bridgestone tires have helped. (Use the search engine here.) I would suggest taking a close look at the condition of the tires and if they need to be replaced try a different brand.
In case you are interested I bought a 1999 9-5 se v6, I think the only option I don't have is the ventilated seats. About 23,500 miles at the time of sale (December, 2001). Total cost $21,000 plus sales tax. Financed through Saab at either 4.9 or 5.9%, I don't have right in front of me. At the time edmunds was quoting something like $23000 for the car with this milage. That seemed a little high.
The car is comfortable, competent and fairly quick, I am not disappointed. Good luck.
