Sorry for the long post, but I've searched the site far and wide and I have not found an answer for this so I decided to post so please anyone who has an idea, please help. So here it goes.

I bought a 2001 Saab 9-5 Se V6 at auction. It had 87K miles and looked good. My wife and I put over 2k miles on it and one night I filled up with 93 fuel as usual and we drove to the grocery store. On the way home (which is about 2 mi) the check engine light and transmission light came on at the same time but the car ran fine. I got home worried and got on the net to research the situation. After reading some posts some suggested that it might be nothing and to start and drive the car and the problem might go away. As I turned the car on a puff of smoke came out of the exhaust. I left it alone and in the morning started it again and the smoke got worse. My brother-in-law is a Ford mechanic and he came over and figured out it was the turbo. He rebuild it and the car runs very well. When he checked with the OBD2 reader the codes came back P0741 & P0743. He cleared them when he finished working on the car, but today after probably the 10th time turning the car on since the codes were erased, the check engine and transmission lights came on again.

I now realize that the turbo and these lights were two separate situations, but I was wondering if anyone knows exactly what the cause might be. Again the car runs fine, it does not go into limp mode. My brother-in-law suggested it might be some solenoids in the tranny and a guy at the dealer parts counter suggested it could be as simple as updating the firmware on the computer.

Sorry for being long-winded but hopefully the details help. Thanks in advance.
