Haven't done a 2005 so I can't say for sure. But if your Saab mechanic is fully familiar with how to program keys to any older 9-3/9-5 models and he said that the menu is different now with a 2005, I guess something must have changed to make him cautious.
WIS doesn't give you any hints in how to program keys, never had. It's all in the menu of the Tech 2.
If the car would have been a 2006 I know he have to use the CANdi box in between Tech 2 and car to be able to talk to it.
