Here's a link regarding changing the thermostat but does give details on draining the radiator. Quite simply I drain the radiator, fill with distilled water. Bring car to normal temp (heater on full), drain again. If you're anal like me repeat the process (or if your coolant looks dirty repeat the process). Fill with 50/50 coolant mix and you're good to go. As opposed to using the drain plug on the radiator I undo the bottom hose of the radiator to drain. The drain plug is plastic and removing and re-installing it quite a few times could lead to premature stripping of the threads if you're not careful.
