I tried the battery replacement route (multiple times) and found it was a short-term solution. Random alarm problems started again.
I then went to a Saab Dealer with very reasonable service rates and had then disable the siren, cost me $25. I still have an alarm, still have audible alerts when the doors lock/unlock, but these sounds are from the car's horn and not the alarm siren.
I have read that the 2004 and later cars have the horn only, so I made my 2000MY car sound 4 years newer!
