You should try to keep the fuel level at least at 1/4, or you run the risk of burning out your fuel pump. Trust me on this one- I went through two fuel pumps that way until I learned that the gasoline in the tank actually helps distribute the heat away from the pump, acting like a "coolant" for the FP. In addition, whatever particles are floating around in your gas tank are a lot easier to be sucked into the fuel pump when the fuel level is low, putting you at risk of damaging the fuel pump!
