Anyone heard of a bad throttle body whose faulty parts are mechanical and not electrical? I put in a remanufactured TB 3 weeks ago to replace the existing remaned TB that started going into limp home mode after a year; thankfully it was still under warranty. If you remember my previous posts, the car ran great for a week or two after this newest TB, but then suddenly stopped starting. A couple of you suspected the new TB and suggested checking to see if it was in limp home mode, which it wasn't, so we moved on to a lot of other possibilities. I finally gave up (after a week) and had it towed to the dealer. I got a call a couple hours later telling me I needed a new TB. They said the butterfly valve had gotten stuck in the throat of the TB and wouldn't swivel. They busted it loose and it started right up!!! Of all things!!! GRRRRRRR!!!
On the drive home today from the dealer I stopped to run an errand, had the car off for less than five minutes, and then sure enough it wouldn't start. I popped off the delivery pipe and pushed down on the butterfly with a screw driver until it let loose, and man that sucker was tight. Of course when the car is running it stays open a bit and runs great, but what I believe happens is that after it's shut off the throat cools down and shrinks around the butterfly making it stick.
I will have ANOTHER remaned TB coming in a few days, and I'll be glad to be done with this nonsense. Thanks to everyone for all your great suggestions. At least I learned a lot through all this!
