Cracked Oil Pan 2003 Aero Posted by Dano in Texas [Email] ![]() ![]() |
2003 9-5 Aero, 75,500 miles. My wife had her Saab into the dealer Thursday for an oil change. Drove home 23 miles and car sat Friday. She leaves Saturday morning and I notice about a 1/4 cup of motor oil spread on the garage floor. I called her and had her stop and check for any excessive leaking then proceed to the Saab dealer to check it out. They told her the oil pan was cracked. Se wasn't given any details about the crack.
Not pointing any fingers, but is it possible to crack the oil pan removing/replacing the drain nut during an oil change? She didn't run over anything on the way home from the oil change. Or can age and stress crack the pan like anything mechanical?
Also, since the pan will be replaced is there any other recommended mx as far as the oil pick up or checking for sludge we can do at the same time?
The dealer may take responsibility for the crack as the rep told my wife to "not worry about it" and he would talk to the mx super while they order the part.
Any advice would be appreciated. We love our 9-5s (mine is a 2004) and they have been super reliable. We are very happy with the dealer. The loaner car the dealer gave my wife is a 2009 9-3 2.0T. It is really peppey and drives nice but seems kinda cheap inside although the features are nice (like bluetooth, etc).
