I have a 2007 9-5 Aero automatic.
Over the past few days my wife and I took a long weekend involving two 120 mile trips on the NY Thruway and the Interstate. Going to Hyde Park, NY from central NJ I registered 32.2 mpg; on the return I registered 30.5 mpg.
Temperatures on the trip up were 61°F accompanied by low humidity and a speed of 70 mph. This resulted in 32.2 mpg. On the return trip temperatures 48° - 51°F accompanied by high humidity and a speed of 70 mph. This resulted in 30.5 mpg.
This my first automatic Saab after 40 years. To-date I have observed that stop and go driving pushes the gas mileage down into the lower 20's quickly. Hilly driving on the Interstate can drop the mileage from low 30's to very high 20's. Perfectly flat Interstate and a constant 65-70 mpg can yoield 30-34 mpg.
My prior car was a 2000 9-5 Aero manual rans. It would get as high as 35 mpg under the best of circumstances.
Your results sound reasonable. Make sure that your tire inflation is right.
