Good advice from calvin! If you don't have a clamp- Posted by TonyJ [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Some small drain is probably normal......., calvin, Fri, 21 Nov 2008 16:01:01 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
on DC ammeter, a good way to connect a multimeter (start with the highest DC current range**) is in place of the main fuse. Do you leave the alarm armed? On our 9000s, that would accelerate battery depletion a bit. My wife just drove our '04 aero wagon away, but I went out to the garage (~20° F) and put a clamp on ammeter on the small red wire from the + battery terminal of our '97 9000 CSEt* and measured ~60 mA unarmed and ~80mA armed. These readings are near the bottom of the 40A, lowest DC range on the Tenma 72-6185 digital ammeter (10 mA LSD), thus not real accurate, but it should give you an idea of what to expect. Please let us know what you find!
* BTW a great car for sale on Saabnet 9000 classified (price reduced)
** If your multimeter doesn't have DC current ranges, buy a 1-ohm 5W resistor from Radio Shack and measure the voltage across it; 1Volt=1 Amp.
