Soft clutch pedal during long distance trips

I have an issue with the clutch pedal on my '99 SAAB 9-5. I recently drove the car 900+ miles in one sitting. After about 150 miles of continuous highway driving, I got off the highway to change drivers. As I was coming off the highway, the clutch pedal lost almost all pressure and falls to the floor. I had to pull the car out of 5th w/o clutch and then turn the engine off once it came to a complete stop. This was the only way to 'pump' the clutch with my foot to regain some sort of pressure and get through gears. This would happen each time we went to stop. I pumped it right before we hit the GW bridge into NYC where we got stuck in 1+ hours of bumper-to-bumper traffic. At this point, the clutch was back to normal (assumingly because it was being used continuously). It seems that if the clutch was being used continuously, it would retain pressure and operate normally. If it was left unused for extended periods, it would fall to the floor.
Additional note: There is NO leakage of brake fluid...the reservoir remains full during all of this.
My question is this: Has anyone had this same issue? Why does the clutch only lose pressure after long periods of inactivity? I'm assuming there is a leak somewhere but would like to solve this problem before the next big road trip.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
