DI blown on 2001 Aero

While crossing the Chesapeake Bay Bridge last weekend on my way back from the beach I had a little problem. As I accelerated up the bridge I suddenly lost power, heard some noise under the hood, smelled the classic burned wire smell, and saw a puff of smoke out the rear. I immediately hit the hazard lights and OnStar. My mood immediately changed from a relaxing Sunday drive to a tension-filled profanity-laced tirade (car has only 10K miles on it). Thankfully I was alone in the car :-). From the time I hit the OnStar button to the time I walked through my front door almost 6.5 hours had passed.
The next day my dealer quickly diagnosed a fried DI board and replaced the part. I went to pick it up but they forgot to do a test drive because as I pulled out of the parking lot the car had almost no power. They found that the wastegate was also stuck/jammed open (noise heard earlier) and had to be replaced. I was flying out of town the next day so I got a loaner. When all was finished the catalytic converter was replaced as well.
Has anyone else had Direct Ignition problems or was this an isolated incident?
On a lighter side the dealership was extrememly helpful and willing to do whatever it took to make sure I was satisfied so no complaints there.
