I was driving down the interstate today going about 70 mph when suddenly all sorts of things happened.
The CD player suddenly started acting up, I could hear static and the volume cut on and off.
The ACC shut itself off.
The SID became extremely bright.
One head light burned out.
Most of the lights on the dash came on including the airbag light, the CEL and the transmission light. I already had the ABS, brake light, central warning light and the ESP on permanent display from an earlier failed attempt at ABS control module rebuild. The fuel gauge also bottomed out and the low fuel indicator came on, (I have about 3/4 tank). I don't think the battery light or the oil light came on, could be wrong though.
The car seemed to be driving fine, no surging or loss of power, speedo, rpm and turbo gauge were working. I pulled over, shut it down, got out and looked for leaks, none found.
I restarted the car, the airbag light went off, ACC turned back on, CD turned on and sounded normal and the SID light intensity went back to normal. I was about two miles from home so I put it in drive, the car seemed to be in limp home mode, it felt like it was in third gear. I could also hear an rpm dependent whining sound, I don't know if it's transmission or alternator related.
I pulled over again, shut down and restarted, this time the car seemed to shift gears. I was less than a mile from home at this point so I went ahead and drove it in.
The CEL and transmission light are still on.
With all the weirdness with the warning lights, I'm hoping this is an alternator problem, but I can't be sure there is not a transmission problem too.
I'll have the car towed in Monday. Any trouble shooting ideas are welcome here.
Thanks all,
ghylar
