I have a V6 as well and had my CEL come on and went to Auto Zone and got the free code check. It threw the code saying temperature sensor. It was a cheap $20 part and had the mechanic at my tire shop put in. Pretty easy job to get to on the top right of the engine. Cleared out codes and off I went. CEL came on again after a few weeks and cleared out one more time.
Eight months later the CEL came on again. I cleared it out and came back the next day after a few drives. My saab mechanic said it was the thermostat. On a V6 it's a bigger job as you have o rings and gaskets plus where it's located, it's about an hour job. See other postings about what's involved. The thermostat on the I4 is very easy to get to and a 15 minute job. One of the few negative things about the V6.
My suggestion is to clear out the codes and if the CEL comes in a few days, the thermostat is on it's way out and fix both the temp sensor and thermostat.
